Just like people, kitties can be prone to developing arthritis as they age. This painful condition develops when the tendons and ligaments that cushion and connect Fluffy\u2019s bones get worn out. Over time, that soft tissue can thin and lose elasticity, causing a lot of pain, friction, and discomfort. Arthritis isn\u2019t curable, but it can be managed. However, treatments may be more successful if the issue is caught and addressed early. <\/span> <\/p>\n

Here are a few signs for you to watch out for: <\/span> <\/p>\n

Unkempt Fur <\/span> <\/h2>\n

Kitties with arthritis often have trouble bending and stretching to properly groom themselves. Fluffy may start looking a little unkempt. (Tip: groom your feline pal gently, using a soft brush.) <\/span> <\/p>\n

Stiffness <\/span> <\/h2>\n

Arthritis can seriously impact your cat\u2019s mobility. Fluffy may seem quite stiff, especially when she is first getting up or down. She may also limp, especially when she first gets up from one of her 30 daily naps.. <\/span> <\/p>\n

Trouble Getting Up And Down <\/span> <\/p>\n

Kittens are quite lithe and active, and may easily jump from the floor to the back of your chair. However, as your furry companion grows older, she\u2019ll become less bouncy. If arthritis sets in, you may notice Fluffy having trouble jumping onto your bed or couch. <\/span> <\/p>\n

Sensitivity <\/span> <\/h2>\n

With arthritic pets, it\u2019s not uncommon for one joint or area to be affected more than others. Fluffy may react if you touch a sensitive area. She might also flinch, withdraw, move away, or even hiss or bite. <\/span> <\/p>\n

Aggression <\/span> <\/h2>\n

Joint pain can definitely interfere with a kitty\u2019s mood, and can turn her from a purring, cuddly snuggle bug to a hissing, furry ball of rage. If your pet is acting unusually aggressive, she may have arthritis. <\/span> <\/p>\n

Sleeping More Than Usual <\/span> <\/h2>\n

This one can be difficult to spot, given that cats spend so much of their time sleeping. However, if Fluffy seems even drowsier than usual, mention it to your veterinarian. <\/span> <\/p>\n
