At the CareVet by Interstate, we strongly encourage parents to bring new pets in for a Comprehensive Wellness Exam within the first 24 hours but preferably before taking a new pet home, particularly to a household with children. Having one of our knowledgeable experienced doctors examine new pets before having all the family get attached may help avoid heartache if the pet has an underlying birth defect or abnormality. Pets are also prone to carrying intestinal parasites, some of which can be transmitted to other pets and even people. Stopping by our office before taking new pets\u2019 home may help minimize those exposures. While some pets have received boosters by breeders, kennels, or shelter personnel, just like children, pets require a series of vaccinations done by a licensed health care professional.
