As a child, she had a passion for two things: animals and anything having to do with space exploration and computers. She decided to pursue a career in computers, attending Russell Sage College in Troy, New York and earning her B.S. in computer science in 1995.<br \/><br \/>\r\n\r\nFor the next several years, Dr. Bailey had an illustrious career in software engineering, working for companies such as MapInfo, Lotus Development, and Netflix. It was while she was living in Silicon Valley that she became significantly involved with an animal rescue. This sparked her interest in veterinary medicine and infectious disease management.<br \/><br \/>\r\n\r\nDr. Bailey returned to school, completing her pre-veterinary science requirements first at San Jose State University and then at Syracuse University after moving back to upstate New York. She graduated from Western University of Health Sciences College of Veterinary Medicine (California) in 2012.<br \/><br \/>\r\n\r\nDr. Bailey joined a general practice in central New York upon graduation. It was at this practice that she was instrumental in starting an after-hours urgent care service. Through this experience, Dr. Bailey developed an interest in both urgent care and emergency medicine. She joined the Veterinary Medical Center of CNY in 2021 where she worked in the emergency service and CARE Pet Therapy. Her other professional interests include feline medicine and shelter medicine. She volunteers her time and expertise at HumaneCNY.<br \/><br \/>\r\n\r\nDr. Bailey resides in Syracuse with her Miniature Pinscher\/Chihuahua mix, Prince. When she is not working, Dr. Bailey enjoys hiking, kayaking, snowshoeing, geocaching and bicycling. She and Prince have hiked trails in nineteen states (NY, NJ, VT, MA, CT, ME, VA, DE, WVa, MD, NC, CO, AZ, WA, PA, FL, TN, SC and CA). They hike in state parks, county parks, and wilderness areas. But, by far, their favorite hiking challenge is mountains. They have hiked to the summit of over 150 mountain peaks since September 2014. Dr. Bailey and Prince also love to complete hiking challenges that earn them a patch to sew on Prince\u2019s hiking banner.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Fun facts about Dr. Bailey:<\/p>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<ul style=\"font-size:18px;\">\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<li>She finally fulfilled her childhood dream of going to Space Camp \u2013 twice! She attended a one-day space camp for adults at the JFK Space Center in 2006. Then she spent a three-day weekend at Space Camp in Huntsville, Alabama in 2012.<\/li>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<li>She has an amateur radio license. Her call sign is KD2CPU.<\/li>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<li>She designs, builds, and launches model rockets.<\/li>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<li>She and Prince completed the New York Fire Tower Challenge in just 2 \u00bd months. That meant hiking to the summit of 23 mountains that have a fire tower on top \u2013 18 in the Adirondacks and 5 in the Catskills. The winter patch took a little longer \u2013 three winter seasons.<\/li>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<li>She and Prince completed their first Mammoth March in August 2024 at Letchworth State Park. This is a 20 mile hiking event that is completed in eight hours or less. They finished in seven hours! They completed another Mammoth March in Florida in February 2025.<\/li>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/ul>\r\n                    <\/div>\r\n                <\/div>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\r\n                <div class=\"vetcontainer fullwidth flex--row vert__padding--sm\">\r\n                    <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/422\/2026\/03\/DrJillianVanderYacht.jpeg\" \/>\r\n                    <div>\r\n                        <h2 class=\"margin--none\">Dr. Jillian VanderYacht<\/h2>\r\n                       \t<h3 class=\"margin--none\">DVM<\/h3>\r\n                        <p>Dr. Jillian VanderYacht is a small-animal veterinarian originally from Michigan. She earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2016 and completed her clinical year at the University of Tennessee. She has experience in both medical and surgical cases and has a particular interest in surgery.<br \/><br \/>\r\nShe focuses on clear communication and practical care plans, with an emphasis on patient comfort and supporting clients in everyday decision-making for their pets.<br \/><br \/>\r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tOutside of work, Dr. VanderYacht enjoys spending time with her husband, twin daughters, and younger son. Her interests include rollerskating, riding her motorcycle, and the Syracuse restaurant scene. She has veterinary certifications from Washington State and has a dog and a cat.
