Meet Our Team
Dr. April Dove
DVM
Dr. April Dove has been caring for the animals of Warwick since 2014 and accepted the role of Medical Director in 2026. She grew up in Alabama where she received her undergraduate degree in Biology from the University of Montevallo, then went on to earn her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Auburn University in 2007.
Becoming a veterinarian was an easy choice for Dr. Dove. Growing up, she always loved animals, biology, and had an inquisitive mind for figuring out how things work. Her desire to help animals and their people combined with creative thinking and initiative to dig deeper fuels her ability to make individualized care unique to each case. She is most passionate about internal medicine, exotic animal medicine, and complicated cases. Dr. Dove has a huge soft spot for senior pets, rescue animals, wildlife, and helping families through end-of-life decisions with honesty and compassion. If there is anything she wants her clients to know, it's that they are always welcome to ask questions and share openly what is realistic for their family. Dr. Dove's love for animals has infiltrated her home. Her non-human family includes four cats- Tinsel, Ariel, Pearl, and Blindy, a rescue bearded dragon named Olive, an ancient Shih-Tzu named Ernie, and Hank the French Bulldog (otherwise known as the Office Manager). In the Dove home, you may also find a rotation of foster animals and short-term wildlife patients. Outside of animals, Dr. Dove finds joy in spending time with her family, getting lost in projects or various hobbies such as rockhounding, lapidary, gardening, or anything that involves spending time outdoors. Her curious mind likes to stay busy learning and trying new things- so who knows what project she'll dive into next!
Dr. Tessa Miller
MS, DVM
Dr. Tessa Miller joined the CareVet of Warwick team in 2025. She recently moved to Virginia to be closer to the beach, but was raised in Tennessee where she earned her Masters and Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Lincoln Memorial University. Dr. Miller was drawn to veterinary medicine from a desire to advocate for the members of our family that don't have a voice. Her passion is supporting humans in helping their pets recover and live a better quality of life. To Dr. Miller, nothing is more rewarding than knowing she can help families enjoy more time with their beloved pets. While Dr. Miller loves working with cats and dogs, she hopes to also expand into exotic medicine in the near future. Her own fur family includes Dusty, a Pitbull mix and two Shih-Tzus, Lily (pictured) and Skunk. The three pups help her unwind by accompanying her while she reads, plays video games, paints her nails, watches thriller films and reality TV, and writes fictional stories. On her day off, you might catch her going on a long drive or relaxing at the beach. When she's back at work, she looks forward to growing her relationships with the clients and patients of Warwick.
Dr. Paul F. Gustafson
Retired, but Always a part of the Warwick Family
Born in Hibbing, Minnesota, Dr. Gustafson attended the University of Michigan where he earned B.S. and M.S. degrees. He received his DVM degree from the University of Georgia in 1980. He has been working as a veterinarian here at Warwick since graduation.
It was his lifelong love of animals that inspired Dr. Gustafson to become a veterinarian. He counts delivering puppies or kittens by C-section among his most memorable veterinary experiences. The experience of "reaching into one living being and pulling out and saving a new life" is truly unforgettable.
Here at CareVet of Warwick, Dr. Gustafson treats cats, dogs, reptiles and exotic pets. His specialities include laser surgery, orthopedic surgery, and dentistry.
A serious amateur astronomer, Dr. Gustafson has a grand total of seven telescopes of various sizes and types, each one a different tool for a different task. He also enjoys photography, birding, fishing, snow skiing, and working with computers.
Dr. Gustafson's pets include a Blue Tongue Skink named Astro and four Yorkshire Terriers: Halley (named after Halley's Comet), Betelgeuse (BeeGee for short, named after the giant star in the constellation Orion), and littermates Nick and Nora (named after Nick and Nora Charles from the old Thin Man movies, ran out of good astronomy names).
Dr. Gustafson delivered Halley by C-section. "When we got Halley," Dr. Gustafson recalls, "It was my turn to pick a name and I picked Betelgeuse, BeeGee for short, but I was overruled, 1 to 1!" He won the vote 1 to 1 with the next Yorkie, BeeGee.
Eydie Maley
LVT
Eydie Maley has been a staple of CareVet of Warwick, serving as a devoted Licensed Veterinary Technician for almost four decades. She received her Associate's in Veterinary Technology from Blue Ridge Community College in 1989 and has been helping the patients of Warwick ever since. Eydie has always loved caring for animals and is especially passionate about client education in the importance of dental care. Her two sons, Michael and Cory, are all grown up and out of the house now, but she stays busy caring for her Mini Doodle, Maggie (pictured) and two cats, Hazel and Baxter. After fearlessly leading the team as Hospital Manager, Eydie stepped into "retirement" in 2026 but still works part-time at CareVet of Warwick as a Licensed Veterinary Technician to keep in touch with her patients, clients, and colleagues. In her newly found free time, Eydie keeps herself busy with an active outdoor lifestyle. You can likely find her at the beach, kayaking, walking, cruising on her E-bike, or camping with Maggie.
Sarah Hudgins
LVT
CareVet of Warwick has been fortunate to have Licensed Veterinary Technician, Sarah Hudgins, as a crucial part of the team since 1999. Sarah earned her Associate’s in Animal Science and Veterinary Technology from Blue Ridge Community College in 1999 and joined Warwick shortly after graduation. Her favorite veterinary topic is preventative medicine, with a goal of keeping pets happy and healthy for as long as possible. Sarah’s fur children include Oakley (pictured), a Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier and a Maltese mix named Remi. After work, Sarah comes home to hang out with her two children and husband, often spending their time cheering the kids on while they play sports.
Tiffany Thompson
Hospital Manager
Tiffany Thompson joined the CareVet of Warwick team as Hospital Manager in 2026. She found her calling in 2013 by a happy accident; While intending to only work the summer after graduation as a Kennel Attendant before pursuing a different career path, she fell in love with the veterinary field and never looked back. Learning all parts of the hospital from reception to technician skills, Tiffany quickly grew into team leadership while working in the Richmond area before moving to Newport News in 2025. She is a fervent advocator for adapting to patients with anxiety, teaching fear-free techniques, and nurturing a healthy work environment for her team. On the weekends, Tiffany loves cooking, working out, walking trails, trying coffee shops, road trips, baseball games, and going to Richmond to visit friends and family. She is happiest outdoors (especially in the mountains) but on a rainy day you might find her snuggled up on the couch with a book and her three cats- Biscotti, Leo, and Coltrane (pictured), with Dolly Parton playing in the background.
Lindsay
Technician Assistant
Lindsay's love of animals led her to join CareVet of Warwick's team in 2012 as a Technician Assistant, and she has been advocating for her patients ever since. Lindsay is most passionate about nutrition and client education, especially regarding preventable issues like pet obesity. Outside of work, Lindsay is a devoted mother to her son, Dakota. Her son shares her same love for animals and their dream is to adopt a Doberman one day. Together, they go on adventures and love to learn new things. Hardworking as she is, she finds time to decompress by reading, drawing, or binge-watching new shows.
Rachel
Technician Assistant
Some people are born to work with animals, and Rachel is one of them. Growing up, she has always admired animals of all species, so she began working in veterinary medicine until she graduated from an Apprenticeship program and became a Licensed Hearing Aid Dispenser. After working a "regular" corporate job for 15 years, she made the determination that the veterinary field is where she belonged. CareVet of Warwick gladly welcomed Rachel to the team as a Technician Assistant in 2025. She is a fervent caretaker for all of her patients, with a soft spot for exotic animals and geriatric pets. Rachel's fur family consists of Aurora, an adorable Pitbull mix and her foster American Bully, Mystique. She likes to decompress by going hiking, relaxing by the fire, and embarking on adventures with her husband and the pups.
Sara
Technician Assistant
If you have popped into CareVet of Warwick since 2015, you've likely met Sara as the friendly face at the front desk. Sara is our Lead Client Service Representative as well as a skilled Technician Assistant. She loves helping patients through every stage, from the very first puppy/kitten check up to the heartbreaking goodbye. Sara is most passionate about anxiety management in patients and supporting clients through end-of-life care. When she's not at work, Sara likes to go to concerts, play pool, and spend time with her own animals. Sara's pets include a handsome Dalmatian named Luke (pictured), four cats- Stella, Tuna, Cider, and Sophie, and a Ball Python named Lilly. When it's time to unwind, Sara is likely with her husband and son, typically outdoors, either at the beach, hiking, or by the fire pit.
Savannah
Technician Assistant
CareVet of Warwick welcomed Savannah (back) to the team after she initially took a break from caring for the animals of Warwick to focus on #momlife and other pursuits such as working as an Emergency Department Technician and EMS volunteering. Eventually, her love for Warwick's patients and their humans led her back our way. Savannah's clinical skills and Associates of Science degree equip her to help hands-on as a Technician Assistant, though her home base is a Client Service Representative. Savannah's approach is to create a warm, family-like environment for our clients and their fur babies. When the work is done, you can bet Savannah is either cozied up with a good book and a cup of coffee, or planning her next travel excursion with her family.
Fiona
Client Service Representative
Fiona was born in Glasgow, Scotland but grew up in Worcestershire, England. She received her Associate's Degree in Business while living in the United Kingdom before making the move to America in 1990 when she married her husband, John. Since John was a Fighter Pilot for the US Military, they had the opportunity to travel the world until eventually settling down in Virginia. Fiona joined the CareVet of Warwick team as a Client Service Representative in 2017. Her love of animals led her to move from working in human healthcare to veterinary medicine with no regrets. Fiona currently works part time and otherwise enjoys her "retirement" by leading an adventurous lifestyle- riding motorcycles, roller skating, traveling with friends, and horseback riding. She unwinds by gardening, painting, drawing, and spending time with her pets- Stanley, a Golden Retriever mix, her cat, Tipsy, and her horse, Pippa.
Dianna
Client Service Representative
Dianna was born in New York but grew up locally after her family moved to Virginia when she was three. When she was little, she would often talk about being a veterinarian when she grew up. She attended school at CNU and was working at Kmart where she met her husband, Jack, and the two married in 1983. Dianna joined the CareVet of Warwick team as a Client Service Representative in 2015. She is recently "retired" but still helps out at the front desk part-time because she loves working with animals and their humans. In her retirement, she spends her time doing jigsaw puzzles, working out, organizing things around the house, and volunteering at her church. Her and her husband are kept company by their German Shepherd mix, Roy, and their five cats- Little Girl, Mookie, Atticus, Junior, and Fluff.
