Meet Our Team

Dr. Hillery Gilbert

Veterinarian

Dr. Hillery Gilbert is originally from the Black Hills of South Dakota. She received her undergraduate degree from SDSU and went on to receive her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Minnesota in 2017. Since then she has practiced in various states including South Dakota, Texas and Missouri. Dr. Gilbert recently moved to Omaha and is looking forward to helping out the surrounding clinics with relief veterinary care. She loves seeing dogs and cats of all sizes and ages. Dr. Gilbert especially loves to work with owners in a team approach to their pet’s care; client education is paramount for this.

Dr. Gilbert is a proud wife and mother to two young children. She has two senior pets, a Golden Retriever, Karsen and cat, Bruce. Dr. Gilbert enjoys working out, cooking, going for walks with her family, and exploring new restaurants and cuisines. She is excited to spend time with our CareVet West Omaha team and patients to fill in any gaps in coverage and make veterinarian transitions feel a bit easier for all.

Dr. Hillman

Veterinarian

Dr. Hillman earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Nebraska in 2022. She brings experience from Pitts Veterinary Hospital, where she practiced as an associate veterinarian. Her clinical interests include weight management, pain management, and dermatology, and she is comfortable performing general exams as well as routine soft tissue surgery and dentistry. Dr. Hillman is ProHeart certified and licensed in Nebraska.

Known for her people-oriented and collaborative approach, Dr. Hillman prioritizes building strong relationships with pet owners and delivering thoughtful, empathetic care. Outside of the clinic, she enjoys riding horses, spending time with her dog, and exploring new places to eat. We’re thrilled to have her supporting our team and caring for our patients.

Dr. Gray

Veterinarian

Dr. Gray earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Iowa State University in 2021, after completing her undergraduate studies in Animal Science at Kansas State University. She also pursued studies in leadership through the Stanley School of Leadership.

She brings experience as an associate veterinarian at Best Care Pet Hospital and is skilled in general practice exams, routine soft tissue surgery, and urgent care and emergency medicine. She is also comfortable working with exotic patients.

Dr. Gray’s clinical interests include dermatology, soft tissue surgery, and fear-free practices, and she is ProHeart certified, Fear Free certified, and USDA accredited. She is licensed in Nebraska. Known for her collaborative and people-oriented approach, Dr. Gray prioritizes building strong relationships with both clients and care teams, delivering thoughtful and empathetic care. Outside of the clinic, she enjoys spending time with her pets, reading, hiking, and walking outdoors.

Dr. Morrison

Veterinarian

Dr. Morrison earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Iowa State University in 2017. She also holds a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education from Iowa State University and completed biology pre-requisite coursework at Northeastern Illinois University. She brings experience as a lead associate veterinarian at Gentle Doctor Animal Hospitals and is skilled in general practice exams, routine soft tissue surgery, dentistry, and small animal emergency care.

Dr. Morrison’s clinical interests include internal medicine, particularly endocrinology and urology, as well as dermatology, ophthalmology, preventative care, and client communication. She is ProHeart certified, Fear Free certified, and USDA accredited, and is licensed in Nebraska. Known for her thoughtful and detail-oriented approach, Dr. Morrison is focused on delivering thorough, high-quality care while building strong relationships with both clients and care teams. Outside of the clinic, she enjoys traveling, running, and spending time with friends and pets.

Katie Retzlaff

BS, CVT, LVT, RVT, Elite FFCP

Katie brings a wealth of expertise and a Midwest-rooted perspective to the veterinary community. Originally from St. Louis, Missouri, Katie’s professional journey has taken her across the heart of the country—holding licenses and practicing in Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Texas, and Wisconsin. This broad geographic footprint has given her a unique understanding of diverse practice cultures and regional industry standards.Katie’s background as a Credentialed Veterinary Technician in various clinical settings paved the way for her passion for professional development & mentorship. She specializes in transforming veterinary practices through structured education and focusing on patient-centered care. A lifelong learner, Katie is a Fear Free Elite Professional, a Human-Animal Bond certified professional, and a RECOVER BLS & ALS Instructor.When she is away from the clinic, Katie is a travel enthusiast and a self-proclaimed sports fanatic. At home, she is a devoted wife and proud cat-mom who enjoys reading, visiting local vineyards and shopping.

Becca Edwards

LVT

Becca has been an essential part of the CareVet of West Omaha family for nearly 24 years, bringing dedication, expertise, and a contagious enthusiasm for veterinary medicine. A 2001 graduate of tech school, she has built her career on providing compassionate, top-quality care to every patient who walks through our doors.

At home, Becca’s heart belongs to her two rescue dogs: Henry, a lovable Shih Tzu adopted in 2019, and Carlos, a spirited Shepherd mix who joined the family in 2025. She and her husband, Mike, will be celebrating 15 years of marriage in October 2025.Outside the clinic, Becca’s life is packed with adventure and excitement. She enjoys camping, attending concerts, cheering at rodeos, and soaking in the thrill of monster trucks, drag races, NASCAR events, and tractor pulls. Traveling is another of her passions, and she’s always ready for her next destination.Whether she’s caring for pets at the clinic or embracing the high-energy fun of her favorite hobbies, Becca brings the same passion, dedication, and joy to everything she does.

Shelly Wurtele

Receptionist / Administrative Assistant

Originally from rural Nebraska just a short drive from Omaha, Shelly has called the city home for many years. She’s been the welcoming face and friendly voice of CareVet of West Omaha since 2020, bringing warmth, organization, and a dash of humor to every day at the clinic.When she’s not keeping the front desk running like clockwork, you’ll find her jeeping through the mountains, getting lost in a good book, or enjoying time with friends and family. Her family holds a special place in her heart—especially her beloved grand-dogs, Shilo and Denver.Since joining the team, Shelly has loved connecting with clients, supporting the staff, and helping keep pets happy and healthy.
